Recording and Editing With Word Processor

First I check whether Audacity works.

If I read from a book because it contains less typographical errors than the online text, I still load the text to my word processor.

When I err I stop for a few seconds. I mark with red color the last word of the text before the part I read anew. I put the symbol for colors in the top command line of my word processor so I can click on it fast and easy. In case I blunder again at the same place I blot the next word to the left red. In the event of a pause, e.g. for turning a page, I just mark one letter.

After finishing recording I export the audio into wav format to secure a backup in case my editing damages the Audacity file.

Now I use the "Silence finder" function of Analyze with "Minimum duration of silence [seconds]" set at 1.5, because reading I produce pauses of around 1 second.

I minimize the Audacity window so it just fits the audio and "Silence finder" track then drag it to the top of the screen.

I go to the end of the text in the word processor and using the detailed "find function" where I choose for direction "up" and font color "red" arrive at the last error or pause of my recording. Then I switch to Audacity, leap to the end of the recording and move the track bar to the left until I find a sign for Silence. I mark the track forward until the wave looks identical and listen to the highlighted part. Checking the text in the lower part of the screen, if the highlighted part begins the same like the first word on the right to the red one I delete it. Moving a little bit to the left, I listen and compare with the text that the "old" part and the "new" one connect properly. Using the small double triangle indicating to the top on the up and down bar at the right of the word processor I arrive at the next red word, switching to Audacity, I search for the next Silence sign and repeat the process.

Two or more red words specify I must delete a longer piece with two or more breaks.

If I see only a red letter, I know that in Audacity I have just to delete the silence part.

As I marked the beginning word of the reading section in red, when I land there the editing is done.

Next step is noise cleaning.

Now only remains to amplify, check if parts need normalizing and the file can be exported into MP3. After the export, check the new MP3 file with Audacity whether it is corrupted or otherwise damaged.

Recording a project with several sections I jump to the beginning and insert from a file which I created from the first section the LibriVox Disclaimer and the information about the text which do not alter; therefore I say at the beginning only e.g. 'chapter 2'.

For a pdf text I mark the text with the note function of the free trial version of "Foxit Reader" and use the "previous" function in the "comments"/"navigation panel" for editing.

Reading only from a book it is back to the ancient times of paper and pencil. When I slip up I note the page and location, like 54 hu - high up. And later in the correction process cross it off.

Editing this way you do not overlook parts, check with the text whether the fixed pieces stitch together correctly and do not need to listen to the whole recording.
