Science Fiction Short Stories
All these are available from Project Gutenberg, and are likely, in Cori's opinion, to be under an hour in finished recording time*. The advantage of using PG texts is that they have already been carefully copyright checked, so unlikely to give us legal problems in that respect! (Though a few books there are copyrighted - double-check the licence text before recording.)
Longer books and more short stories and novellas can be found on the Science Fiction Bookshelf at PG, or search there for your favourite authors -- you may be surprised!
Multiple versions are very welcome - however, if you want to read something for the first time, please cross-reference with the LibriVox Short Science Fiction Index.
Word counts are only rough estimates of total words in each story. Another loose rule-of-thumb is 1 min per KB.
Last edited: Nov '09 (including all Gutenberg short titles to 30400.) There are 385 sci-fi short stories listed.
* Longer stories -- but which may still fit within the 70min limit of the Short Story collection, depending on how fast you read -- may now be found at Science Fiction Shortish Stories. Stories which turn out longer than 70mins can be split into more than one file and catalogued as a solo. See also Science Fiction Novels.
